Half Term, Part 2 - Lyme Regis

After our trip to Abbotsbury to the Swannery we headed back along the coast to Lyme Regis.
Along the coastal road there are some fantastic views and I wish now that we had stopped so that I could have taken some photos but we were intent on getting to Lyme for our fish and chip supper!
When we arrived in Lyme we visited all our local haunts - Susie Cole, the CK shop and the second hand bookshop. We came away empty-handed apart from at the bookshop where I found an old Enid Blyton Nature Lovers Book and an old Billy Bunter paperback for Our Daughter.
The Enid Blyton Nature Book is wonderful and I may do a post about it later - there are poems about every month of the year, wonderful illustrations and colour plates, not to mention, a lot of information about trees and flowers and, what to look out for each month!
At the end of May / beginning of June we were told to look out for caterpillars - well, we were one step ahead there - see the post before this one to find out more!

The wonderful colours of the fishing nets.

A rusty old anchor.

A warning light.

Although it was still nice and warm Our Daughter maintained that she was cold and this time I ended up giving her my cardigan which engulfed her and made her hands completely disappear!

Some coloured buoys.

Shortly after this photo was taken we made a bee-line for one of the trailers that sells fish and chips and sat on the wall by the beach enjoing our tasty fare! No photos - too busy eating!

On the way back home we crossed the border back into Devon and I asked the Other Half to pull over in one of the country lanes when I espied this horse. Despite the lack of rain the Devonshire countryside is still lush.

We arrive home and give the rabbit a treat - some locally grown lettuce from a nearby farm shop.
Just realized that this is probably the first photo of our rabbit - Harry Bun!
When we come to Devon the dog and rabbit always come with us and you may think me a bit cuckoo but I think that the rabbit prefers it here too! He certainly enjoyed the lettuce!

On Thursday we made our way to Brixham and then onto Dartmoor to see the foals.
More on that in a later posting.

Just spotted I have a new follower - hello!
Maple Leaf I also just saw your recent comments - thankyou!

Until next time.

The Week-End

Well, it's been a week without a posting! I was beginning to get some withdrawal symptoms! There has been a lot to do at work and so the blog had to take a bit of a back seat last week.
The above is a flower in our garden - I just love the fuschia colour, it's so vivid!
Just found I've got a new follower. I'm always amazed as to how people find my blog and Denise has told me that she discovered the blog when looking up Cockington Village near Torquay where she used to live. She now lives in America! Now many people who blog can set up a link with their previous posting so that others could see my post about Cockington - I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to links so it's not going to happen here! Sorry!

At the weekend we headed down to the South West. On Saturday we took a trip to Lyme Regis in Dorset.
It was a very bright, sunny day.

We are lucky enough to have been to Lyme many times and there is so much to see and take a photo of - you can almost guarantee not to take the same photo twice!
Lyme is one of my favourite destinations - it has so much going for it!

I liked the muted colours of these ropes.

The greedy seagulls!

I would love to live in that house on the hill - imagine the breathtaking views!

And if I couldn't have the first house what about the views from this one!

We sat on the harbour wall watching the world go by ... I love days like this. The sun's on your face and all's well with life.

Lobster pots!

Colourful buoys!

A colourful anchor!

And another ...

We had some ice-cream - it was heavenly! We walked back into town through the gardens and discovered this Gaudi style mosaic bench! We rested awhile!

Our Daughter fell in love with this sun hat and we bought it as it will be practical if we have a heat-wave this Summer! Buying the hat has probably put a dampner on the forecast!
We visited the second hand bookshop and I bought four paperbacks including two Agatha Christie's.
The Other Half found three Leslie Charteris (The Saint) paperbacks and Our Daughter found an old Beano.
What's more we then went to Susie Cole (a fabulous shop that sells some vintage goodies). I saw a lovely vintage vanity case which the Other Half bought for me as an advance Birthday present!
On the way home we stopped in a Farm Shop and purchased some strawberries which had only just been delivered having been picked that afternoon!
If only all days were like this!

Until next time.

Lyme Regis and Devon Countryside

During the half term break we headed from Hampshire to East Devon for a weeks holiday.
On the Monday the weather was cloudy but it wasn't raining so we made our way to one of our favourite destinations - Lyme Regis in Dorset!
Having been brought up in Angelsey which is surrounded by the sea I have to have a regular fix of seeing the sea at close quarters.

On the sea front there is a row of these lovely houses painted in the palest of pinks with turquoise doors. I wish that I could take a peek inside and envy those who live so close to the sea. I would love to be able to look out of one of the bedroom windows at night and be able to see and hear the waves crashing against the shingle. Something reminiscent of a Daphne du Maurier novel.

I also have something about bicycles. Whenever I see one abandoned like this and it's been raining or is about to rain that song "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" from the film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" comes to my mind when Robert Redford and Katharine Ross are riding a bicycle - everything seems to be carefree and easy - nothin's worryin' me!

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be burnin' red
Cryin' not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me

The threat of rain didn't last long and soon we were being pestered into buying an iced lolly - a FAB no less. I used to love these myself when I was little, especially the hundreds and thousands on top!

I had never seen the sea so far out before and I liked the mirrored effect of the buildings in the sea water.

Another bicycle.

After a splendid day on the seafront we visited the second hand bookshop and purchased a few books to read. We then visited a shop called "Susie Cole" which sells many vintage items - inside an old dolls pram there was a toy mother rabbit with her baby - really cute. Pester power was being strongly exercised and we succumbed. I will show them to you in a later posting once they have been prised off Our Daughter's bed to be photographed!

After a tour of the shops we made our way back to the car park and headed back to East Devon using the back roads - I much prefer the scenic route to major roads - the hedgerows were full of snowdrops.
It is much easier on these roads to stop and take photos!

As we were ambling along we saw this bridge in the distance and stopped the car for a short walk. The sound of the water running downstream and the birds twittering away in the trees - priceless.

Oh, I do love the Devon countryside - those rolling hills and big vast green spaces.

And we had the place all to ourselves.

Our Daughter saw this abandoned tyre and immediately plonked herself in it - she declared it - "truly comfy".
"If we put a cushion in the bottom it would make a nice seat for the garden!"

There's not a lot you can say to that, is there?

Until next time.

Lyme Regis in November

After a few days of snow and as if by magic it all disappeared. This was the view that greeted us at Lyme on Monday! Look at that blue sky and the even darker blue sea! It was however absolutely freezing. The small shops that are usually open on the front were all closed up. They were very unlikely to make any money on the sale of ice-cream!

I saw this sign on a hat shop. I don't know how long it's been there but I can't remember seeing it before.

When in Lyme we normally walk along The Cobb. We started walking and got half way before deciding it was too, too cold and turned back towards the town.

Not a day to be following the advice on this sign! Even our daughter was silent on the issue of ice-cream!

No, no ice-creams today that's for sure!

A day to be wrapped up warm against the elements.

The fossil shaped street lights.

The towns clock. Look how long those shadows are which tells you how low in the sky the sun was even at 3.00 p.m.

Our daughter!

We decided to head back home and came across this pair of papier mache cats in a shop window.

Thankfully, this was not our mode of transport. It must be cold on a bicycle in this weather!

Until next time.

A trip to Lyme Regis and our cat "Ruby"

Here are some photos from a recent trip to Lyme Regis. It was a hot, sunny day in October! It all seems a long time ago now.

Lyme is a favourite of ours. It really has something for young and old alike - with lashings of ice cream!

Here are some interesting characters!

Some more photographs of Lyme in the glorious sunshine.  The harbour with its fishing and pleasure boats.

Another papier mache bather enjoying the sunshine!

And finally, I leave you with the photo I promised yesterday of our adored cat "Ruby". Here she is having a nap in one of her favourite places - a bed with an eiderdown. Doesn't she seem to be saying - Go away and leave me to my sleep and take that blasted camera with you!

I will leave you now and return with another post tomorrow about a recent trip to Forde Abbey near Chard with beautiful Autumnal colours.

Until then.
