We Made Pancakes in PJ's ...

Did you make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday? We started ours at 8.00 p.m. with Miss. K. in her PJ's, apron and of course, her chefs hat! Who knows she might start off a new trend - cooking whilst in your pyjamas! After Miss. K. came home from school I asked her to put on some of her old clothes as we would be making pancakes and she might get batter everywhere - her choice, an old pair of PJ's!
She beat the egg whislt sat in a crouched position!

She sieved the flour! Just spotted that she's got her school socks on - what a style guru!

She whisked the batter!

It helps if you hold the bowl steady!

Let's add some more to the mix!

The final stage - frying the pancakes!

The kitchen was filled up with smoke and the fire alarm went off twice - at least we know it works!
No photos of the finished article as we ate them all!
Miss. K. retired to bed with a stomach full of pancakes!
"At least I don't have to change into my PJ's - I'll just wear these!" she said - there was some logic to wearing the PJ's then!

This is the recipe that we followed:-

125g plain flour
1 medium egg
275ml - 300ml semi-skimmed milk
1 tablespoon of icing sugar / caster sugar
Pinch of salt
 Grated nutmeg

To make the batter, sift the flour with a pinch of salt. Make a well in the centre and pour in the egg and slowly whisk in the milk to make a smooth batter. Add the icing sugar and nutmeg and continue whisking until the mixture is the consistency of pouring cream.

Rest the batter for 20 minutes.

Heat a frying pan over a medium heat and add a small cupful of batter to the frying pan, tilting the pan to swirl the batter evenly and thinly.

Use a palette knife to help you turn the pancake over unless you're the adventurous type and want to toss it!

Place the pancake on a plate and start making the next pancake. Be sure to separate the pancakes on the plate so that they don't stick together - we used kitchen roll but greasproof paper would also suffice!

Eat whilst still warm with sugar and lemon!

Delicious!

N.B. None of the recipes that I sourced on the internet mentioned the nutmeg - this was my gran's tip! If you haven't tried pancakes with nutmeg - you don't know what you've been missing!

Be back soon!

June.
