Calamity ...

Hello there! Apologies for the long absence but Picasa has finally crashed and I can no longer upload any photos and I seem to have lost many that I had. The computer needs to go in to be repaired but other things have stepped in the way of it happening.

I thought that rather than leave it until the computer is repaired (if it can be) I would update you with  life in our little neck of the woods and that I would answer the questions posed by Jelly Jam when I was tagged a few months ago. Sorry to Ellie for taking so long to get round to it! Better late than never, I suppose.

I was also tagged by Penny at The Hen House and will try and retrieve the questions and answer those in another posting. Hopefully, I'll get round to it before Christmas!

I have been very accident prone recently. A few weeks ago I attended my Photography Class and we walked to the local church to take some photos. I walked on some wet leaves, slipped and fell over and landed on a gravestone! From my left knee to my ankle came up purple and the leg was very sore for a week. It is still purple but a shade lighter and no longer painful to the touch. Luckily, I didn't damage the camera but by steering my right arm to prevent the camera crashing onto the gravestone I must have done something to my shoulder as that too was painful for a few days.

The tutor had asked us to get a photo of movement. I jokingly asked if anyone had captured me in full flight before  crash landing on to the gravestone. Nobody had.

This weekend, whilst looking for some pasta in the food cupboard I opened one of the top cupboards and then went and looked in the cupboard underneath. Forgetting that I had left the top one open I got up and banged the bridge of my nose on the top door - receiving a cut which bled and a blackened eye in the process!

Today, our neighbours in Devon  phoned to say that slates have fallen off our roof and that rainwater is coming in through the roof to one of the bedrooms. The OH has had to rush down there to sort it out. I await a report on the devastation - hopefully, it won't be bad. It wasn't but he thinks he's been caught by a speed camera on the way there!

To leave all the mishaps behind I will answer Ellie's questions:
  1. town or country? I much prefer the country although we currently live in a town - from necessity rather than choice - easy for the school run and work.
  2. your most unappealing habit? I worry too much. I worry about everything - I can make something small into something big. Since my illness earlier this year I have taken to not worrying so much. There is nothing as important as your health and those of loved ones.
  3. what advice would you give your 18 year old self? Goes hand in glove with the above - not to worry so much.
  4. cats or dogs? We have five cats and two dogs (not forgetting the rabbit). I love both but cats have the edge.
  5. your most overused word or phrase? I don't think that I have one although every time I see a politician on TV or read about one in the press I get completely exasperated and shout at the top of my voice (only when indoors at home) "Stop talking drivel!"
  6. your perfect dinner date? A night out with the OH, KP and a few friends or family.
  7. red or white? I like both in equal measures!
  8. what are you wearing today? Brown cords (the jeans are in the wash) and a green shirt with slippers - a great look!
  9. spend or save? A bit of both which means we've never got any spare but we don't owe money to anyone either, other than our mortgage. I couldn't go into debt it would worry me!
  10. dream car? An E-type Jag or a VW split screen camper van (not strictly a car but what the heck!)
  11. If you were an animal you'd be... a cat!
I have to now reveal to you 11 things about myself, so here goes!

  1. I lived on Anglesey in North Wales for the first 20 odd years of my life.
  2. My first language is Welsh. When I was very little and used to go and play with some English friends from up the road I would find it hard to speak  English but the even stranger thing was that I would find it harder once I got home to speak Welsh!
  3. I was in the same class at school as the son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's current landlord.
  4. I wish that I hadn't been so shy at school and played a more prominent role in school plays - always in the chorus but never given a lead role.
  5. I wanted to be a journalist. Does blogging count!
  6. I was allergic to cats and dogs until in my 30's!
  7. I can't abide snobbery.
  8. I love Chinese food.
  9. I never suffered from any illnesses until I reached 35! My mum used to send me to play with children with chicken pox, measles, etc but I never caught anything. Now I seem to catch anything and everything and whatever I do get lasts twice as long as it does for anyone else!
  10. I wanted to do needlework at school but my mum said I had to do french which I detested. The teacher said that I should sit in the back as that was where all the failures sat.
  11. I am a qualified Solicitor. The son of the french teacher failed his Solicitors Finals!
I need to now tag 11 other people. What I will do is look back on Penny - The Hen House's blog and try and answer her 11 questions and do the tagging at that stage.

Hope I haven't wittered on too much. Hopefully, the computer will go in and be repaired soon so that I can once again do posts with photos.

Until next time,

June.

  5. Oh goodness June, you have been in the wars! I do hope that's you 'three' out of the way!!

My girls were English speakers in a Welsh school but they both now speak passable Welsh, although I think they'll lose it again without practice.

  6. Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck, I hope it's now well and truly behind you. I enjoyed getting to know you a little better, I'm exactly the same where worrying is concerned, I'm usually awake for long periods during the night worrying about one thing or another, and I too used to be allergic to cats and dogs, in fact I was allergic to all sorts of things. My allergies seemed to get better after I became a mum for some unknown reason. Hope you manage to get the computer fixed soon.

  8. Poor you I thought it was bad when you told me about your fall in the graveyard. You should be in for a period of good luck after all that! How dreadful that you have lost some of your fantastic photographs. Have you got a copy of them anywhere?
I think it is human nature to worry about your health , especially if you have been ill, my husband has had some health scares and worryies much more about his health now.

  15. I love that you speak Welsh. My great grandfather came from Wales after his family joined the Mormon church. They crossed the plains in a wagon and his family settled in Ogden, Utah but when he got older, he homesteaded in Idaho.

  16. Yes, photography can be dangerous. I managed to fall down as escalator in the Louvre because I was too busy taking photos to realize I was at the bottom- very sore ribs but luckily the camera was ok. Nice to learn a bit more about you too.
Hope your computer problems get sorted soon.

  20. Hope you can solve the picassa issue and return soon (if the issue is size/capacity of photos, perhaps I can help). It has been delightful visiting you throughout this year. Thank you for your visits and for the time you took to leave us comments here too. We look forward very much to more time shared in 2013! and here is wishing it to be a peaceful, healthy and happy new year. Love Darcy, Bingley and Helen xxx

  21. ... further to your response, I am a bit baffled too, but am going to post your issue up on a forum I am part of, so will get back to you if they have some suggestions. Hope they can help. Helen xx

  22. ... me again... a selection of comments so far... how about this one:

"Does she have all her photos in picasa on the web, or are they all stored locally on her computer? If picasa is just managing her photos on her hard drive (as it does for me) she can always try finding her photos again. When I'm at my computer (I'm on my tablet now) I can give more detailed instructions. However, if her photos are on her local computer she has not lost them regardless what picasa says. They are still there, it just means picasa, due to a problem it has, cannot find or read them. She could just reinstall picasa and let the repaired install find them all again".

    What think you?
    Helen

  23. Hi June
Further to your message, its so maddening, isn't it. Just one last comment below, although. Take care and all best wishes. Helen x

".. go to Tools, Folder Manager and try to force Picasa to find all the photos again. But, if it's really screwed up, and the photos are still on her computer, uninstall and re-install. It will find them again. I've had to do that a few times in the past...."

  24. Hello June

Very sorry to hear you have had so many mishaps lately and an accident too.How are you now?
I''m looking to using Flickr but I want to read more about it before I do. I've read that it does solve the photo upload limitations on blogger though.

Have a great Christmas June and best wishes for a very happy New Year.

  30. Thanks for your comment. It was strange as I was just thinking about you and wondering if you posts has stopped showing up on my blogger feed again as I hadn't seen a post from you for a while. I was planning on coming over here to check and then I saw a comment from you - and see someone else had the same thing, Jelly Jam above!

I hope you are well and have had a nice Christmas. I do hope to see you blogging again soon. How about a new scavenger hunt for 2013 to keep your photography going?! I've just done a new post with the details!
