Fine and Dandy

The post today is going to be about Dandy Christmas Annuals. My first ever Dandy was a cast off from my dads younger sister and since then I've been hooked!
Thankfully, our daughter loves these books too and so for Christmas this year she received this top one and the one below as presents. The others are previous Christmas / Birthday presents.

I used to love Korky the Cat, Desperate Dan, Corporal Clott and who could forget Winker Watson.

The front covers are a work of art in themselves.

I don't know about you but all the new annuals you see in the shops are just boring compared to these and can be read in half an hour. Whereas these old lovelies you just want to read and read again.
So much thought has been put into the stories with some wonderful schoolboy humour!

In the one below Winker Watson has written a "Loopy Limerick."

"There was a young lady from Gloucester,
Whose parents thought they had lost her,
From the fridge came a sound,
And at last she was found,
But the trouble was how to defrost her!"

and how's this for a Winker "Rummy Rhyme."

"A greedy young fellow named Sid
Once ate eighty tarts for a quid,
When they asked, "Are you faint?"
He replied, "No I ain't,
But I don't feel as well as I did."

This is the back cover of the one above to show you how Korky balanced those sausages!

We have had a fairly quiet day today - me tidying up the house, hubby watching TV and our daughter has been busy with her colouring book of Designer Doodles (which I purchased in the first week of the School Summer Hols and which is still going strong!) whilst also watching TV.

Our cat Poppy just lazed about on the bed as did Millie but he got up to allow me to take this photo. Doesn't he look grumpy! "I want to go back to sleep. Leave me alone!"

Last night we went to the cinema to see the latest instalment from the Chronicles of Narnia - "Voyage of the Dawn Treader". If you haven't been and are a Narnia fan then it is well worth seeing.
The young actor who plays Eustace is particularly good.

There's no more to say other than to wish you all a H-A-P-P-Y  N-E-W  Y-E-A-R!!!

Until 2011.

June.

  1. Cats definitely have the right idea! My boy Pickles has made a camp in the linen cupboard where it is lovely and warm and quiet. I wish I could join him!
Wishing you a very Happy New Year and happy days for 2011.

P.s Your cats are very handsome.. are they Maine Coons? I had a silver tabby Maine Coon once.. she was beautiful and had an obsession with watching the kitchen tap.
