Fridays Photography Class ...

Hello there! Many "Thanks" for your comments on my last post. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who finds that when the camera is set on manual there is much time spent on faffing around! When we went to the Axe Valley Wildlife Park (see previous post) I had my camera on manual but found it quite difficult to keep the momentum going. Although it was a day with a lot of sun, it was also very cold. The OH was quite patient but I could tell he was getting bored and when he said he would go to the little cafe I was relieved as it meant that I could take my time without feeling the pressure to hurry up!

On Friday I attended my Photography Course in Guildford. One of the course members had arranged for us to go to a local church to take photos. When we got there we were instructed by our tutor as this was a place where the lighting wasn't brilliant that we should once again utilise the flash compensation and turn the dial to -1. We were also advised that we would need flash but that as many of the items in the church were gold this would give a glare unless, we could  improvise by wrapping bubble wrap around the flash.
Most of the class had got bubble wrap with them but guess who hadn't! Yes, yours truly!
Apparently, we had been told previously to always carry some bubble wrap. I think that my mind wanders a lot in the lesson. Mind you, having said that, I sometimes arrive at my destination but have no recollection of driving through some of the villages! Anyone else out there do this?

Anyhow, the tutor told us that if we wanted to take a photo using the flash but didn't have bubble wrap the thing to do was take a photo from the side and not from head on - which is what I did in the first photo.

I liked the lectern.

Here you can spot me taking the photo!

We were told to go and take photos that would portray the church as each of us found it. I think it will be interesting next week when we see each others photos!

I liked this - although it is a bit grim looking.

Half way round I decided to take black and white photos.

I like the stained glass window in black and white but wish that I had also taken a colour photo - to see which I preferred.

Some body's lost their head!

A small part of the church.

All too soon the lesson was over and we wandered back to the classroom to collect our belongings.
Some of the group are interested in organising another course next term on Photoshop Elements so I might sign up for that. I know absolutely nothing about Photoshop so it would probably be good to get some basic knowledge.

My parents have been staying with us this week and although we have been out and about I haven't taken the camera with me as we've been to various town centres rather than on day trips.

KP had a friend round for Sunday dinner and then she was off school on Monday and Tuesday - nothing to do with the cooking, I hope! On Wednesday she sang with the school choir accompanying the Military Wives Choir. We were really bad parents and had left it until too late to buy tickets. I made up for it by buying her the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy.

Until next time,

June.

  3. Your photos are wonderful, so many great things to photograph in that church. I like the one where you can be seen taking the photo. How wonderful for KP to get the chance to sing with the Military Wives Choir, a shame you couldn't be there to see her.

  4. I expecting to see the headless person carrying her head under arm!
I don't suppose that would have been appropriate in a church though!
Hope you have a good weekend.

  5. Interesting photos and yes, I often arrive somewhere and then have no recollection at all of the journey I took - I often say to Dave 'Did I drive through XXXX earlier' and then am really surprised when he says I did and I have no memory of it. My dad does it too though, he says it's because just drive on autopilot and the mind wanders so you think about other things and don't notice where you are!

  6. Great photos of what looks like an interesting church with so many different things to see and I love the items you have focused on. I often do things so automatically that I can't remember doing them:)

  7. That looks like a lovely church, full of interesting and colourful things to photograph. Those are not real skulls are they? They reminded me of a small chapel in the south of Portugal known as the Chapel of Bones because its walls are covered with real human skulls and bones.
