Photography Class and Something Made ...

Hello there! Many "Thanks" for your kind comments on my last posting. I have been feeling a bit under the weather - a bit of a head cold, which has meant that I have been a bit disinclined to be on the computer and more huddled up on the sofa with a hot drink.

Nine days ago now saw me attending the Improvers Photography Course. As is was a lovely day we were told that we would be going outside and that we had to photograph reflections. Thereafter we were to head down to the Church and in particular to the graveyard to take black and white photographs and to try to emulate something in the style of Alfred Hitchcock!

The above was taken from a barbers pole outside the barbers!

I liked the reflection of the bikes wheel spokes on the pavement.

I liked the building reflected on this BMW motorcycle.

I snapped this photo of two people on the course taking photos - what you can see is their reflection in a cafe window. I also like that I seemed to have captured the reflection through the window of someone sat in the cafe!

A gravestone a la Alfred Hitchcock! I liked the shadows on the gravestone. I'm not sure that I like black and white photography. I like images in black and white - just not mine!

Our homework had been to photograph something from a different perspective / angle. As I had been feeling unwell and not up to much I just about managed to find this hydrangea in the garden to fulfil the task. I like its lace appearance.

Another photos of the hydrangea.

And now, to something completely different! Just before Christmas we had visited Ikea and I had purchased a sewing machine! Mid-week the OH came home with some fat quarters and two zips! Foolishly, I had promised to make KP a make-up bag for her Birthday.

I used to like using the sewing machine at school - it was compulsory to do cooking and sewing until the end of the Second Year. We also had to do woodwork, metalwork, art and pottery! I remember the art teacher writing in my school report that I seemed more intent on painting people than the paper. In other words, I splashed the paint around the art room and  not that I was interested in portrait painting!

So, having no more experience of a sewing machine than what was learned by the age of thirteen I set about threading the needle - a few swear words were used when I pricked my finger but lo and behold the machine was set up and I was ready to go!

Why, oh why I choose to do something that involved a zip, I don't know. I sewed it on three times before I was happy! I then sewed by hand the letter "K" for KP. I left it on the dining room table for her to espy when she ate her breakfast in the morning.

Until next time,

June.

  5. Amazing photos! Every one of them tells a story, you can see that you took your time and you had something in mind when you were taking them. My favorite are the reflections, I love when you can see an object through mirror, glass or building. It's even better when it's devided like this reflection on a skyscraper . Have you ever tried something like that? Keep up the good work, you're really talented.

  6. I love the lacy hydrangeas and the black and white aka Hitchcock. I love taking reflections and shadows sometimes they can almost look other worldly.

  9. Hi June, Hope you're feeling a lot better now.

Your photos are great, one of my favourites is the tombstone one and I also love the hydrangea one which as you say looks like lace.

KP's make up bag is very pretty, for a first attempt I'd say that's very good. What did she say? I know what you mean about zippers, they're a headache and I always try and get some way of doing without them.

  10. Hope you're feeling better, June. The make up bag is lovely, KP must have been thrilled with it. I'm useless at sewing, I much prefer knitting or crochet. Fantastic photos. I particularly like the tombstone and the barber's pole.

  15. I've been thinking that I might enjoy learning to use my camera to it's full use and not just a snap here and there. Your shots were very good.
