Tulips and Childrens' Books

Thanks for your encouraging comments on my previous post! I wish that I could report that I am better but am still feeling mighty rough! Five weeks of sheer hell! I have a chronic sore throat and cough!  I can't sleep lying down because as soon as my head hits the pillow I start coughing! I have therefore been trying to sleep whilst sat upright - which is no joke! I think that I've probably got the flu as I've been feeling hot and sweaty one minute and then chilly the next! I am exhausted by it all to tell you the truth! I haven't been back to the doctor as my doctor is pretty crap if I'm honest!
The OH has been absolutely marvellous looking after me and doing all the shopping and taking Miss. K. to and from school. I don't know what I would have done without him!
He bought me the beautiful tulips above to cheer me up!
It's that time of year again when Miss. K. has her English Studies Board exam - she has to recite a poem, give a presentation and a demonstration and answer questions about them as well as reading  from a book of her choice!
Her presentation is going to be about "Matilda" - The Musical - and she is going to sing parts of two songs for her demonstration! She does a pretty mean impersonation of Miss. Trunchbull!
The exam is on Wednesday - so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well for her!

A closer look at the tulips!

I am a bit of a collector of childrens' books and I thought that I would show you some of the beautiful covers that these books have!

Most of the books I have purchased from a local second hand book shop - some for as little as 20p!

Aren't the covers just stunning! So evocative of their time!

Some have been presented to children for good school attendance or as a prize!

Some of the books also have colour plates in them!

The covers just make you want to grab the books and read the adventure stories within!

Wonderful drawings of children at play!

One of the colour plates!

Another look at those tulips!

One last look!

Righty-ho - I'm off to make myself a lemsip with some honey!

Be back soon!

June.

It's so awful to be sick...especially when you feel you have to take care of everyone else...rest all you can! ♥ LOVE the tulips, and the books ~ I have such a fondness for children's books and the illustrations! (Also, love that little tin in your vignette) ~
    Get well soon!

I love old childrens books too and if I had seen some them in an op shop I certainly would've given them a new home.

So sorry to hear you are still unwell but it does sound like it's time for a new doctor.........
Take care of yourself, hope you are feeling better soon.

  9. Hello, thanks for your comment. I keep missing your posts as they're still not showing up on my dashboard, even though I am following you, which is very annoying.

Apparently there is a virus going around that has cold like symptons but isn't a cold and it lasts for a couple of weeks so I think that is what we have had. I have been feeling exhausted too. I started with a really sore throat and extremem tiredness and over the course of the last two weeks that has evolved a bit to include a blocked up or very runny nose and a cough which is very annoying as it just won't go and I'm coughing all the time. I have felt so rough but I haven't had any time off work - that's not allowed with our 'unsympathetic' headteacher - just lots of early nights for me. I am feeling much better but the cough and blocked nose are very persistent and I can't seem to get rid of those.

Hope the exam went well and that you feel better soon too!

  10. Hope your daughter's exam went well, and sorry to hear you are still not feeling well - as you havent posted for a while I hope its not because you are still suffering.
Your tulip photos are just amazing!
Those old books look wonderful - the illustrations were wonderful and full of innocent pleasures, and show such a different life then.
    Take care June

  13. So sorry to hear how poorly you are! I also have a wee collection of old children's books and annuals; I love the covers. Once in a while I sit down and enjoy passing the time leafing through them. There's a certain smell and feel to the paper that is lovely too (if you can smell anything with your flu). The tulips are an amazing colour! Oh and I just bought a bundle of plastic, coloured knitting needles like yours from my favourite junk shop :) Do you have them for display or knitting?

  16. Hi June

Thanks for your comment on mine - sounds like you've got a budding gardener in George then! Luckily Logan doenst seem to be bothered as yet, and of course you know I only show the good bits - I carefully screen out the shabby borders, washing line and trampoline!!!

I do hope you are on the mend - miss your posts and stories of your days out, but lovely to see those gorgeous tulip photos and lovely books again.

  19. I do hope you are feeling better by now and that your blog is only quiet because you're busy enjoying yourself, not because you are still unwell.
