Paris Day 6 - Part 1

We awoke early and looked out of the window to see a lovely blue sky with some fluffy white clouds.

We got up and breakfasted and went to catch the Metro to the Georges Pompidou Centre.

Out on the street we saw that the chalk artist had started another art-work.

We went down the Metro lift at Abessess and saw that someone had somehow scratched Barack Obama's face on the wall in the lift.

We thought that as we were so near to the Hotel de Ville we would go and have a peek. Our Daughhter pointed out the above. There are many of these in London too - quite clever, turnning the roadsign into a work of art.

Hotel de Ville - the home of the City Council. In medieval times, place de l'Hotel de Ville was the site of hangings and executions.

We saw some street art.

We saw this massive art-work which was very near to our main destination but first let's explore the Stravinsky Fountain just outside the Georges Pompidou Centre.

The building in the background is the Georges Pompidou Centre. In the forefront is part of the fountain designed by Igor Stravinsky and featuring the colourful sculptures of Niki de Saint Phalle.

It is impossible to get the entire fountain into one photo - hence why I had to take several photographs, you understand!

We saw that there was another chalk artist nearby and wandered over to have a look at his art-work. The artists dog didn't seem at all phased by the amount of people about and oh, he'd sat on the area where the artist had been chalking - the evidence is there to prove his guilt!

I sometimes wish that I had an artistic flair - wouldn't it for once be just lovely to go and do something like this and not have to worry about the daily grind of the 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Just to sit and draw what pleases you and have others admire the work - so satisfying!

We bought a crepe at a nearby food vendors stall and sat by the fountain eating our light lunch.

We saw a street artist whose only claim seemed to be that he could balance on a bottle.

Many people had gathered to watch!

We went to the Georges Pompidou Centre. I was surprised to learn that in this museum you could take photos as long as you didn't use a flash - I was made up!
